  1. I am a medical student about to take step 1 then start rotations. Over the past two years my health has been falling apart. I was diagnosed with astma that showed the early stage emphasema just last year. Now, I am experiencing kidney problems. I get the butterfly rash, and have for over a year. My hands are so stiff in the mornings I can not open my medication. My body hurts, mainly my neck and hips. Especially after strenuous exercise, but I thought it was the soreness everyone gets. My drains are always clogged with hair, but i thought that was normal. I am always tired but I’m in medical school, everyone is. I have been in denial about my health because I am young, fit, and take care of myself. I finally made an appointment to get blood work done after I spent the night puking. I went to urgent care the next morning, still puking, to discover I have leukocytes and protien in my urine. I have been having terrible anxiety about being diagnosed and how that diagnosis is going to affect my career going further. Thank you for sharing your story, I may get some much needed sleep tonight.
